The American Caliban

Cate Blanchett is a good actress. This is a nightmare. Get her a doctor! YIKES!

via Cintra Wilson's Deregublog.

I know it's a mental illness, and it can affect anyone, but being a Hollywood actress just cannot help. What a mess!

1. She's always been a tad scrawny.
2. She's playing a cancer patient in some comedy thing.

Throw in some bad lighting and a camera angle that makes her shoulders jut out a bit (a bit like mine, actually), probably some sly photoshopping to confirm the impression. The dead fish stare probably doesn't help either.

If you want to be sad, go look at ALL the photos of her from the Costume Institute gala last weekend on Getty Images. :(
ALL the angles make her look like she's dying and there's no photoshop at Getty images.
Poor thing. I hope it's for a role or something...

I think Cintra Wilson's contention has always been that celebrity IS the disease.

y'know - there are a lot of reasons why someone might be skinny (not just mental illness). And Cate has always always been thin, so she only needs to lose -oh 5 lbs - to go from skinny to skeletal.

I've always been thin, and now I'm skinny, and I've been skeletal. And it was never on purpose, but I get accused of that all the time. Any stress at all, and my appetite goes out the window.

Naturally thin people have it no easier, physically speaking, than naturally chubby people, when it comes to controlling our weight/appearance. My high metabolism and natural rejection of fatty foods makes it as difficult for me to gain weight (once I lose it) as another person's slow metabolism and comfort from food makes it difficult for them to lose weight (after they've gained it).

Oddly, theres some rumble about these photos, as in she looks fine the rest of the night, not under these lights. Can someone have one bad night?
Not in Hollywood apparently.

she did look terrible at that event, they did show one picture where she was not under that horrible light and at a better angle and she looked better. i mean, i know anorexia can affect someone at any time, but i figure if she's had this great career for this long and hasn't done the whole weightloss thing to fit in yet, she won't. it might be for a movie?

also, i saw pictures of her that were taken AFTER this event, a few days ago, and she looked EXACTLY like her normal self again. so it really could have been the makeup/positions/light/etc.
