I was a toddler, and my family had just moved into this neighborhood. I don't think anything remains that you can see in this picture.

The Mesa Theatre is visible on the right at 19th street there.

Okay so that, plus the Orange County Archives photostream just made my day.
Thank you so much for sharing.

I love pics from the recent past. Man, how much life has changed since then.

I miss the Mesa. I remember riding my bike to see matinee movies there. We took the residential streets and avoided Newport Blvd. It always seemed big and dangerous.

Any one of those cars could have belonged to my folks. They moved to Newport in the '40s and lived just a stone's throw from this photo location.

That's pretty cool. I'm still trying to figure out what's going on with the street and right-of-way and my memory of the area. Is that a one-way Newport on the right (with maybe the other direction on the far-far-right?) and the little strip from the Rock-n-Java to the sex shop on the left?

Yeah, that's shot basically standing near Ruba facing south. You can see the Mesa in the distance. It's a two-way Newport but you can't see the other way except in the extreme right because of the way it was shot.
